Marketing During a Recession
Sunday March 1, 2009
Businesses are tightening their budgets and many of them are cutting their marketing budget. I understand that these times are tough and I know that many companies are even laying off employees, but it is important to understand that cutting your marketing budget can often cause more harm to the growth of your business than you realize.

Studies have shown that companies that continue to market during tough economic times often see growth during those times, where businesses that cut their marketing budget will often see a decrease in sales.

It's not time to cut the marketing budget, it's time to re-evaluate your marketing and analyze what is working and what's not. Take time to explore new options of marketing that cost less, but can still deliver the results you are looking for.

We cannot ignore these financial difficulties that our country is facing, but today I want to help you understand the importance of marketing during the recession, learn how to set a marketing budget that you can work with, and explore popular no cost to low-cost marketing tips that you can begin implementing today.

YouTube: Social Media Marketing via Video
Sunday February 22, 2009
In the last few weeks we've been exploring different social media marketing options; today is no different. In the state of our economy we must be innovative, creative and resourceful when spending our marketing dollars. We have learned over the last few weeks that social media marketing is little to no cost, but yet if done right can bring lucrative results.

This week I want to talk about YouTube. I know that when I mention social media marketing everyone turns their focus towards Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. They often forget about the video option that YouTube provides. The great thing about YouTube is that it has over 78 million registered users. There are also over 150,000 videos uploaded daily, so it can be somewhat competitive to get the desired exposure, but it's not impossible.

When it comes to marketing, video can be a great way to interact with potential customers, but you must do it correctly in order to attract new customers and not chase them away. They must see your video as providing them with interaction as well as value in order to be an effective means of social media marketing. Learn how to use YouTube as a viable social media marketing tool.

Your turn to talk: I'm also interested in hearing your YouTube success stories. How have you used it? How has it worked for you? Do you have any tips or tricks that you would like to share? Use the comment section to share your YouTube experiences.

Twitter: How to Measure the Buzz
Monday February 16, 2009
We all know that many of the changes that are taking place when it comes to how companies are marketing is surrounded by social media marketing. Why? It's often free or low-cost to use the social media strategies to market your company and interact with your customers and potential consumers. I'm often asked, "How do I track the buzz on Twitter?" Today I am going to show you how you can track what is being said about you, your company and your products on Twitter.

I often hear people say "Twitter doesn't work for us," that may very well be true, but it may be working against you if you don't know what people are saying. I realize that Twitter can be time-consuming, but it's important to realize even if you aren't there - you may be there because others may be sharing their experiences with your products or services. It's always better to be aware of the buzz, than to avoid the buzz.

Let me give you an example of how Tweeps use Twitter, when I was looking for a coffee maker I started to search Twitter for what others were saying about the brands that I had selected as my options. Obviously, the one that had the best Tweets won. Take sometime today and learn how to monitor the Twitter buzz and see what people are saying about your company and products; you'll be glad you did.

Use the tools I've given you to monitor the Twitter buzz even if you only do it once a week, by not doing it you could be making a very big mistake. You also want to ensure there is some type of buzz, if not it's time to figure out how to get people talking about your product.

How to Market Your Business on Facebook
Sunday February 8, 2009
Let's face it in today's economy we are all looking for ways to be creative and innovative in our marketing. A month ago I asked for people to share their no-cost and low-cost tips and techniques for marketing, a common thread was social media marketing, particularly Facebook.

I know from my own personal experience that Facebook has become a part of my daily routine, I use it to keep up with current events, colleagues, family and friends. There are things I've heard on Facebook way before it ever hit the media waves. I've even downloaded a tool that updates me on Facebook status changes, just so I feel like I'm on top of what's going on in the world. It's true many of us thought that Facebook, was just for kids, but statistics are proving us wrong daily; a recent report showed that over half of the 140 million users on Facebook are out of college.

Does that peak your interest? Are you ready to start capturing your portion of that 140 million as customers? Of course you are, so today I'm going to show you two different ways that you can use Facebook to market your business. Learn how to market your business on Facebook using both Facebook Pages and Facebook Group options.

Internet Marketing - A Viable Marketing Strategy in a Down Economy

Monday March 30, 2009
I was an early adopter of internet marketing, starting back in 1997. I saw the power that the Internet carried that no other marketing vehicle or medium did. Where else could you start a marketing campaign, test it and change it all in the same day?

I'm still surprised by how many businesses have not adopted internet marketing fully. Perhaps they've dabbled here and there, but they've not embraced the full power that the internet carries. Let's think about it. The internet allows you to not only modify a campaign but really target your ideal customer or client.

An example of targeting would be Facebook, while they've not really proven that the advertisements work on Facebook when it comes to conversion they have proven that you can in fact target your marketing message to ideal prospects. If the user is single, they are faced with a dating ad. If they are engaged they are targeted with weight-loss advertisements. If they are married they are targeted with family vacations or perhaps even family counseling.

If you've not yet embraced internet marketing in your business, there is no better time than now. Internet marketing is a cost effective and efficient marketing method that is viable in a down economy. Take a few moments and let me walk you through the why's and ho
